Social Media Marketing (for real businesses)

Walking through security at an airport recently, with my shoes off, my belt off, my stress level at its max, I had to laugh when I saw the sign that read – “like us on Facebook.” Social media marketing is the new black.

If you’re in marketing, or own a business, you have no doubt heard you need to explore social media marketing. Get some web analytics, spend some time listening to the social media channels and then get ready to launch yourself into the word of social media marketing!

The forgotten part in all of this is—what if no one is talking about you? What if you listen to social media only to hear — nothing?

The truth is, your neighbour and other Facebook users aren’t likely talking about your brand or any brand. (Unless of course, you’re the Saskatchewan Roughriders.) It’s more likely they’re talking about their dog.

Here’s what we’ve learned.

Phoenix Group offers a quick scan, a social media analysis, to clients for $900. It’s a price that any business can afford. We look at a few things, but always start with the business name. More often than not, business owners are disappointed to discover that people simply aren’t talking about them in social media. So does that mean social media marketing is a waste of time? Before you take that leap—consider this.

The other part of our report listens to the industry or sectors the business is in. Here things always get interesting. Social media analysis that reviews your sector or industry can tell you where potential customers are on social media. Even if they aren’t talking about you specifically – they are likely talking about the industry you’re in.

Armed with where to find them in social media you can build a strategy. Should you be joining a community that already exists? Should you be creating content to reach your Facebook users? Or should you be reaching out to the influencers on social media.

For $900, I’ll tell you!
